C001 On the Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry
Resolved, That the House of Deputies of the 81st General Convention of The Episcopal Church congratulates the Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry for his leadership and faithful service as the 27th Presiding Bishop; and be it further
Resolved, That Bishop Curry was ordained a priest in 1978 and served parishes in North Carolina, Ohio and Maryland until his 2000 election as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina and is the author of five books and a regular guest on national and international media; and be it further
Resolved, That he was elected Presiding Bishop at the 78th General Convention in June 2015 and installed in November of that year and has served since that time as The Episcopal Church’s chief pastor, spokesperson and president and chief executive officer; and be it further
Resolved, That he has been an animated visionary and messenger of the radical, life-giving love of Jesus of Nazareth thrilling and inspiring people around the world; and be it further
Resolved, That throughout his ministry, Bishop Curry has been a prophetic leader, particularly in the areas of racial reconciliation, climate change, evangelism, immigration policy and marriage equality regularly reminding Episcopalians that they are “the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement”; and be it further
Resolved, That the House of Deputies wish Bishop Curry the blessing of health and grace in his retirement as the Presiding Bishop this coming November.
