A173 Express Gratitude for The Rev. Edward W. Rodman
Resolved, That the House of Deputies of the 81st General Convention give thanks for the life and witness of The Rev. Edward W. Rodman, who died on April 2nd, 2024, at his home in Framingham, Massachusetts; and be it further;
Resolved, That we remember and give thanks to God for his many decades of faithful service to The Episcopal Church, including as the John Seeley Stone Professor of Pastoral Theology and Urban Ministry at Episcopal Divinity School, Canon Missioner of the Diocese of Massachusetts, member of the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church; member of the Board of Episcopal Relief and Development, a founding member of the Union of Black Episcopalians and The Consultation, a former urban hearings coordinator for the Urban Bishops Coalition, and the coordinator of the Episcopal Urban Caucus; and be it further
Resolved, That we express gratitude for Ed’s work as a strategist, advocate and activist for social and racial justice, for his many published works, and as an educator and mentor across generations in The Episcopal Church; and be it further;
Resolved, That we extend our condolences to his wife Gladys, daughters Claire, Alice and Sarah, and to his family, as we commend our brother Ed to Christ's never-failing care and love, and into the glorious company of the saints in heaven.
