A228 Express Gratitude to Paul Neuhauser
Resolved, That the House of Deputies of the 81st General Convention sends gratitude and sincerest congratulations to Mr. Paul Neuhauser for his 50 plus years of service on the Episcopal Church’s ethical investment committee known by various names over the decades, currently as the Executive Council Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility; and be it further
Resolved, That the House recognize him as the writer of the first faith-based shareholder resolution in 1971 asking General Motors to leave South Africa, launching a new movement among the major Christian denominations and many Roman Catholic religious orders leading to the founding of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility; and be it further
Resolved, That the House applaud the seminal moment when he met with JP Morgan Bank for the fourth time convincing them they should make no more loans to South Africa, dealing a critical blow to the apartheid regime and shortly the collapse of the racist system; and be it further
Resolved, That the House rejoices with Paul, the former Deputy and Executive Council member from the Diocese of Iowa, for recognizing those who have accompanied him as members, staff and volunteers during these 50+ years so that those who stand on the shoulders of all these pioneers may continue the work ahead for the generations to come, with the work expanded to include, among many issues, care of creation, human rights globally, workers' rights, gun safety, health care, immigration policy, and diversity on corporate boards of directors.
